The essentials

Sterility at a glance

For you, Sterility invites you to recognize what no longer bears fruit and to choose where to put your energy again.

A strength

The courage to stop, take stock, and not persist in a dead end.

Something to watch

Hammering away at what no longer responds, or concluding that everything is pointless because of a single project.

Meaning of Sterility

Sterility speaks of ground that does not yield. It points to a project that does not take, an approach repeated without effect, a relationship or a habit that no longer nourishes. The card speaks of what produces no fruit, nothing more.

In the Saturn series, it takes the form of a fallow field. A field left to rest prepares for another season, and a suspended project can be laid out again. Stopping is not failing: it is giving yourself the right to choose.

Its downside is discouragement. A project that does not take says nothing about your worth; it calls for another seed or another soil.

Sterility in your life

In love

In a relationship, Sterility speaks of exchanges that spin in the void: a habit to renew rather than a reproach to repeat.

At work

On a professional project, the card invites you to assess a file that is not moving: adapt it, suspend it, or redirect the energy elsewhere.

Sterility in a reading

In its position

Sterility points to an effort with no return in the situation: it invites you to look for another approach before wearing yourself out.

Saturn series

Long time: limits, trials, withdrawal, maturity.

Misfortune, Fatality, Grace, Ruin, Delay, Cloister

The Belline cards help you look at a situation from another angle: they predict nothing, and the choice remains yours.

Its place in the deck

Sterility carries number 47 in the Saturn series, a planet associated with limits and stripping away. Its fellow cards in the series are Delay, Grace, Cloister, Fatality, and Misfortune. Versana reads in it only an image of a project and of ground at rest.

Reflecting on Sterility

A question

Which effort are you still repeating even though it yields nothing, and what could you try instead?

A gesture

Choose a task that is bogging down, deliberately pause it, and note what you will do with the energy freed up.

How is it built?

Where the sources disagree

  • Tone of the cards: A ranking set by the site from the name of each card, with no old source: 21 supportive cards, 14 demanding, 18 neutral. It gives the tone of a reading, never an answer or a yes or no.
  • Dominant series: When one planet comes up more often than the others in a reading (at least two cards), its series colors the interpretation. A modern reading rule, described by several guides; cards outside the series are not part of the count.
  • Images of the cards: The drawings attributed to the mage Edmond (died 1881) are old, but the cards published since 1961 and the Mucem photographs are not under a free license. The site draws its own pictograms and reproduces no card.
