Calculate your personal year

What is the personal year?

The personal year describes the climate of a specific year of your life. It speaks neither of your character nor of your destiny: it indicates the kind of questions likely to come up between January and December, and the attitude that suits them best. Sowing, consolidating, opening up, sorting out: each year has its color.

The calculation takes the birthday (day and month), then the calendar year you are interested in. For someone whose birthday falls on November 18, take the year 2034: 18 + 11 + 2034 = 2063. Add the digits: 2 + 0 + 6 + 3 = 11, then 1 + 1 = 2, because 11 is not kept in this position. The year 2034 is a personal year 2 for this person; 2035 will be a year 3, 2036 a year 4, and so on. The year of birth plays no part.

Two rules set it apart from the other positions. First, it always reduces to a value between 1 and 9: master numbers are not kept, since the year fits into a loop of nine. Second, it follows the calendar: it opens on January 1 and closes on New Year’s Eve, without waiting for your birthday.

The cycle reads as a loop. Year 1 opens a new period: you launch, decide, change course. The following years settle in, develop, bear fruit. Year 9 closes the loop: you take stock, finish what is dragging, part with what no longer serves, before a new year 1 restarts the movement.

Unlike the life path number, which does not move across a whole lifetime, the personal year changes every January 1. It is therefore read with the fixed numbers of the profile: a year 1 is not lived the same way with a life path that likes to prepare at length as with one that likes the unexpected. It gives themes and questions to ask yourself, never a program written in advance.

How to calculate your personal year: an example

With Claire Martin, born March 14, 1987.

  1. Add the day and month of birth, and the year 2026

    14 + 3 + 2026 = 2043

  2. Reduce to a single digit

    2 + 0 + 4 + 3 = 9

  3. Read the year

In 2026, Claire is in personal year 9. No master number here: the personal year runs from 1 to 9. The same universal year 1 is, for her, the end of a cycle.

Why other sites sometimes find a different number

The difference comes mainly from the starting date. Some numerologists start the personal year on the birthday: between January and your birthday, their calculators therefore still show the previous year. Others keep 11 and 22 instead of reducing to a single digit. Here, the counter turns on January 1 for everyone, and the result is always brought down to 1–9, following Fermier’s “ABC de la numérologie.” The full report accounts for the birthday through another marker, the annual vibration, which follows its own cycle.

Common mistakes with the personal year

  1. Adding the birth year to the calculation. Only the birthday counts, with the year being studied.

  2. Changing personal year on your birthday, then comparing with a calculator that follows the calendar. Here, the counter turns on January 1 for everyone.

  3. Keeping an 11 or a 22. The year fits into a loop of nine and always reduces from 1 to 9.

  4. Expecting a list of events from the year. It offers a climate and questions to ask yourself, which everyone lives in their own way.

Frequently asked questions about the personal year

Does the personal year start on January 1 or on your birthday?

Here, on January 1. The personal year is calculated with the calendar year and therefore covers the twelve months of the calendar, whether you celebrate your birthday in February or November. Some numerologists start it on the birthday, which explains differences between calculators during part of the year. In practice, the change of climate is often felt gradually, in the weeks around the turn of the year.

How do you calculate your personal year?

Add three numbers: your birth day, your birth month, and the year being studied. For a person born on July 25, in 2032: 25 + 7 + 2032 = 2064, then 2 + 0 + 6 + 4 = 12, then 1 + 2 = 3. That is a personal year 3. The following year will give 4, then 5 and 6, and so on up to 9, before a return to 1. No need to know the birth year: the day and month are enough.

Can a personal year be 11 or 22?

No, under our calculation rules. The personal year always reduces to a single digit, because it takes place in a nine-year cycle: a total of 11 is read as a year 2, a total of 22 as a year 4. Some authors still flag passing through 11 or 22 to announce a more intense year. That nuance is optional and does not enter our calculations.

How do you go from one personal year to the next?

From one calendar year to the next, the result always goes up a notch, and a year 9 gives way to a year 1: knowing your current personal year is therefore enough to deduce next year’s. For a birth on March 3: 3 + 3 + 2030 = 2036, reduced to 11, brought down to 2; the following year, 3 + 3 + 2031 = 2037 gives 12, then 3. The theme therefore changes every January 1, without erasing the previous year: what was sown keeps growing.

What does a personal year 9 mean?

It is the year that closes the nine-year cycle. It invites you to finish, to sort, and to take stock: completing a file left open, emptying an attic, clarifying a relationship, giving up an activity that has become foreign to your wants. It is better to spend your energy on what is concluding than on big new projects. Far from impoverishing, this period tidies up and lightens: by freeing up space, it prepares the year 1 that follows.

How do you find your personal month?

Add the number of the month to your personal year, then reduce to a digit from 1 to 9. In a personal year 6, March gives 6 + 3 = 9; July gives 6 + 7 = 13, reduced to 1 + 3 = 4; December gives 6 + 12 = 18, then 9. As with the year, master numbers are set aside. The personal month refines the climate of the year, one month after another: it shows which aspect of the yearly theme comes to the fore at that moment.

What is the best personal year?

None: each year of the cycle has its function, and a successful year is one lived according to its theme. The 1 suits beginnings, the 3 exchanges and creation, the 4 groundwork, the 5 changes. A year 7, turned toward reflection, can seem slow if you expect visible results; yet it serves to ripen a choice. Rather than asking whether the year will be good, it is better to ask what it can be used for.

What changes when a personal year matches the universal year?

The universal year, calculated on the calendar year alone, gives the collective climate. Your personal year equals it for any birthday whose two components, added together, reduce to 9, for example January 8 or September 9. The personal theme then joins the general atmosphere: you move in the same direction as the times, which eases certain impulses and can also accentuate their excesses. For these dates, the coincidence repeats every year.

Can you calculate the personal year of a couple?

There is no shared personal year in the method followed here: each person keeps their own, calculated with their own birthday. Some numerologists add the two results to get a couple’s year; it is a school practice, which we do not adopt. The most useful thing is still to compare: one person in a year 1, who wants to launch, and another in a year 9, who wants to close, will gain from talking about it. The compatibility pages help read two profiles side by side.
