Understanding numerology
Numerology starts from two sources: your birth date and the letters of your birth name. Each letter is worth a digit (A = 1, B = 2… I = 9, then J starts again at 1). You add them up, then reduce down to a single digit, keeping the master numbers 11, 22, and 33 whole. The date gives the life path number, all the letters the Expression number, the vowels the Soul Urge number.
Versana follows Pythagorean numerology, the most widespread in France; the Destiny Matrix reads the date alone, with the 22 tarot arcana. Other schools exist, Chaldean, Kabbalistic, or Chinese: each has its own history and its own way of counting, which explains why another website sometimes finds a different number.

Frequently asked questions about numerology
What is numerology?
A method that turns the letters of a name and the digits of a birth date into numbers from 1 to 9, plus 11, 22, and 33. Each number is associated with qualities. Here, it serves as a framework for reflecting on how you are, not for telling the future.
Where does numerology come from?
From several sources: the school of Pythagoras, which saw numbers as the order of the world; the Greek and Hebrew alphabets, in which letters are worth numbers; then a modern numerology organized in the 20th century. Pythagoras left no writings: the letter chart is attributed to him by tradition.
Is numerology scientific?
No: no study has shown that a number influences a person’s character or destiny. Versana presents it as a vocabulary for asking yourself useful questions, with explained calculations that anyone can redo.
What is the difference between numerology and astrology?
Numerology starts from the letters of a name and the digits of a date; astrology starts from the positions of the planets on the day, at the time, and in the place of birth. They are two different frameworks, calculated in different ways.
How do I calculate my numbers?
You add, then reduce. The full birth date gives the life path number; all the letters of the birth name give the Expression number; the vowels give the Soul Urge number; the consonants, the Personality number. Each letter is worth a digit: A = 1, B = 2… I = 9, then J starts again at 1.
What is the difference between the life path and Expression numbers?
The life path number is calculated from the birth date: it describes the thread of a life. The Expression number is calculated from all the letters of the birth name: it describes the personality you show. The two are read together.
Should I use my birth name or the name I use today?
The birth name, as it appears on the birth certificate, with the first given name: that is the convention of the French school. A name in use (after a marriage, for example) can be read separately, as an added color.
Why do other websites find a different number?
Methods vary: Y counted as a vowel or not, the way a date is reduced, master numbers kept or not. Versana states which method it follows and shows every calculation, so you can redo it.
What is a master number?
The numbers 11, 22, and 33, when a calculation lands on them: they are not reduced. They are not superior to the others; they ask for more, and are also lived as their reduction (2, 4, and 6), simpler and calmer.
What is the rarest life path number?
Between 1950 and 2010, the 6, the 4, the 22, and the 33 each come up for about 5 to 6% of births, based on calculating every date in that period. Rare does not mean better: no number is worth more than another.
