What is the life goal number?

The life goal number answers a simple question: where is your life heading? Where the life path number describes the terrain, the experiences that come up from one decade to the next, the goal points to the horizon. It points to what might one day let you say that your journey made sense: having built something lasting, having woven strong bonds, having understood, having passed something on, having kept your freedom.

This number fixes no destiny. It announces neither a career nor an event, and you can drift away from it for a long time without missing anything irreparable. It acts more like a compass: when your choices move in its direction, you feel a sense of coherence; when they move away from it, a vague unease sets in, even if everything looks in order from the outside.

Its influence runs through your whole life, but it often becomes easier to read with age. Around forty or fifty, many people look back over their journey and recognize in it the direction the goal described. In a profile, it is read with the destiny helpers, drawn from the same year, and above all with the personal numbers: everyone born in the same year shares this goal, and it is the rest of the profile that says how each person will pursue it.

A neighboring notion, the harvest cycle, starts from the same total but keeps the master numbers and describes more precisely the period that opens around age 57. The life path number, for its part, uses the full date.

How to calculate it

Read: Life goal number 7 →

Take the year of birth and add its four digits. If the result has two digits, add them in turn, and keep going until you reach a single digit, from 1 to 9. Example: 1987 gives 1 + 9 + 8 + 7 = 25, then 2 + 5 = 7; the life goal number is 7. Here, the goal is always reduced to 1 through 9: a year like 1966, whose sum is 22, gives a goal of 4, and the 22 is read in the harvest cycle. Some authors keep 11 and 22 in this position; others present it without any particular name, as the goals drawn from the year of birth.

Common mistakes with the life goal number

  1. Keeping a 22 for 1984 or 1993. In this position, the total is always reduced to 1 through 9: the goal is 4, and the 22 is read in the harvest cycle.

  2. Adding only the end of the year: that gives you the destiny helpers. The goal takes all four digits.

  3. Stopping at a two-digit total. For 1972, 1 + 9 + 7 + 2 = 19, then 1 + 9 = 10, and finally 1 + 0 = 1.

  4. Adding the day and the month, which belong to the life path number.

  5. Taking this number as the announcement of a career or a success: it points to a direction, refined by the rest of the profile.

Frequently asked questions: life goal number

How do you calculate your life goal number in numerology?

All you need is the year of birth. Add its digits, then reduce the total to a single digit. For 1993: 1 + 9 + 9 + 3 = 22, then 2 + 2 = 4. The life goal number is 4. Neither the day nor the month comes into it, and the result is always between 1 and 9.

What is the difference between the life goal number and the life path number?

The life path number speaks of the journey: the experiences and situations life offers you. The life goal number speaks of the destination: what you are heading toward, what will give the feeling of a completed journey. The first uses the full date, the second only the year. When the two agree, the journey leads fairly directly to the goal.

Does everyone born in the same year have the same life goal?

Yes, since only the year counts. That is why the life goal number is always read with the personal numbers: life path, Expression, Soul Urge. Two people born in 1987 share a goal of 7, but one will live it in scientific research, the other in crafts or teaching, depending on the rest of their profile.

Can the life goal number be a master number?

Not with our method: the result is always reduced to a single digit. Years whose sum is 11, like 2009, give a goal of 2; those that total 22, like 1975, a goal of 4. The master number isn’t lost for all that: the same total, kept whole, feeds the harvest cycle, which describes the last major period of life. Some authors, for their part, keep it from the goal onward.

Which life goal number is the rarest?

None really stands out. We calculated every birth year between 1950 and 2010: each value comes up six times (the 4 and the 5) or seven times (all the others). The gap comes from the luck of the calendar, not from a rarity that would carry meaning. A goal is also always read with the rest of the profile, since a single birth year gives it to thousands of people.

Does the life goal number change with age?

The number doesn’t: it depends on the year of birth and doesn’t move from one birthday to the next. How it is perceived, however, changes. At twenty, it often goes unnoticed, covered by the urgencies of the moment; later, with hindsight, you see more clearly the thread that linked choices that seemed scattered. A goal of 3 can thus be discovered in a series of jobs that all had in common a taste for passing things on through speech.

What is the difference between the life goal number and the harvest cycle?

Both add the four digits of the year, then diverge. The goal brings this total down to a single digit and applies to your whole life: it is a horizon. The harvest cycle keeps the master numbers and covers only the last period, opening around age 57. For a birth in 1984, the goal is 4, while the harvest cycle stays a 22.

What if my life goal number doesn’t look like me?

First, give it time: it describes a horizon, not a portrait, and many people don’t recognize it until after several decades. Next, look at the personal numbers, which say how this horizon is pursued: a goal of 8 carried by an Expression 2 will go through cooperation rather than command. Finally, remember that it is a line of reflection: nothing obliges you to conform to it.

What life goal number for someone born in 2000?

A goal of 2: the addition 2 + 0 + 0 + 0 = 2 needs no reduction. The 2000s give small totals, which land directly on a single digit up to 2007, a goal of 9. Nothing special in the reading, except that the result passes through no intermediate total. Worth noting: for 2000, the destiny helpers are 0 and receive no numeric value; the goal, however, does exist.

  • Harvest cycle

The harvest cycle is the third major life cycle: it colors the years of full maturity, from about age 57.

  • Destiny helpers

Destiny helpers describe the outside support you meet: who backs you, in which settings, and what slows you down.

  • Sub-number

The sub-number is a compound number that adds color to your outside support, read before the final step in calculating destiny helpers.
