reading a matrix: what it refers to

A matrix is read in layers.

First each energy, which has two sides: in excess, it overflows; in deficit, it is missing or blocked. Then the families of related energies, which answer each other across the chart. Finally the zones that face each other in the figure and shed light on one another. This page gives the method; the other pages detail each point. The aim is not to stick a label on anything, but to spot what repeats and what needs attention.

In excess, in deficit

Each energy is lived in two ways. In excess, it is overexpressed: the person does too much of it, clings to it, locks themselves into it. In deficit, it is missing or blocked: the person avoids it, overlooks it, or leaves it to others. Between the two lies a balanced version, the one the reading tries to name. The same energy can therefore show opposite faces, depending on where it falls and the moment of life. Asking yourself “in excess or in deficit?” keeps you from reducing an energy to a single trait, and opens concrete ways to rebalance it.

Related energies

The twenty-two energies form series that share a common root. In the first series, one, ten, and nineteen answer each other; so do two, eleven, and twenty; likewise three, twelve, and twenty-one, then four, thirteen, and twenty-two. Then come pairs: five and fourteen, six and fifteen, seven and sixteen, eight and seventeen, nine and eighteen. Spotting them helps you understand why the same theme returns in several zones of the matrix, under different numbers, and why two neighboring energies in a series nuance each other.

Mirrored zones

In the figure, some zones face each other and shed light on one another. The parents-and-children zone answers the material karma line: what plays out in the family resonates with what you build concretely. The karmic tail, at the bottom, answers the talents, at the top: what you learned to endure echoes what you do with ease. Reading a zone while looking at its twin often gives the key to a pattern. A difficulty below frequently finds a resource above, and the other way around. This cross-reading keeps you from stopping at a first finding: what weighs on one side often points to what supports on the other.

The calculation, step by step

Reading order for March 14, 1987.

The portrait first: a = 14. Then the center: e = 3, the comfort zone. The talent: b = 3. The life lesson, which is 6, with the karmic tail 9-15-6. Money: point x2 is 11. Relationships: point x1 is 10. Finally the programs, nine in all for this date. At each step, ask yourself whether the energy is lived in excess or in deficit, then look for its echo in the series and the mirrored zones.

A symbolic reading of the Destiny Matrix: food for thought about yourself, never a verdict or an established fact.

Frequently asked questions: reading a matrix

Which page should you start with to read your matrix?

Start with the portrait, which is what those around you perceive first. Then move to the center, then to the talent and the life lesson. Money, relationships, and programs come after. This order goes from the most visible to the deepest. Nothing obliges you to read it all at once: one page at a time is enough, and you can return to the others when a question comes up.

Is an energy in deficit bad news?

No. In deficit does not mean absent or failing: the energy shows up more quietly, or needs to be awakened. It often wakes up as soon as you give it a little room. The reading names a ground to cultivate, with no grade or ranking. An energy in excess is worked on the same way, by looking for balance.

Do you need to understand everything for the reading to help?

No. Keep two or three ideas that speak to you and set the rest aside. The reading helps when it lets you recognize a pattern or choose differently in a specific situation. If a passage leaves you indifferent, do not force it: it may become clearer later, or never, and that takes nothing away from the value of the rest.
