What the number says

Setting a wedding date means first settling very practical questions: who is available among your loved ones, the venue, the town hall, the season. Numerology comes on top of that as a way of looking at things, not as a disqualifying criterion. Every date has a number, calculated like a life path number: day, month, and year are added together, then the total is brought down to a single digit, sparing only the master numbers.

This number gives the tone of the day. The 2 speaks of union and listening, the 6 of home and care for loved ones, the 3 of celebration and words exchanged, the 9 of generosity and openness to others. Tradition mostly cites the 6 and the 2 for a wedding, without making either an obligation: a 5 makes for a lively, joyful celebration, an 8 for a very organized ceremony.

You can go further in two ways. First, by looking at the life path number of each of the two people: the Fermier compatibility chart, presented in the glossary, pairs the 2 with the 4, the 7, and the 8, for example. Second, by taking the universal year into account, the sum of the digits of the year: tradition reads a year in 2 or 11 as placed under the sign of partnerships, and the calculator shows the one for the chosen date. These pairings describe affinities, never a verdict on the strength of the couple.

The twelve numbers

What tradition associates with each date number: a mood for the day, to compare with your couple, never a condition.

  1. Date 1: The start

A date in 1 reads as a bold beginning: a day that marks a departure, for a new home or a shared project.

  2. Date 2: The union

In tradition, the 2 counts two people who answer each other: a date turned toward listening, closeness, and gestures shared as a pair.

  3. Date 3: The celebration

A date in 3 evokes speech and joy: big toasts, laughter, a celebration where the guests take their full place.

The 4 speaks of foundations: a steady date, associated with constancy and a promise kept over time.

The 6 is the number tradition ties to the home: family, care for those we love, the shared household.

A date in 7 reads as a more inward day: a small gathering, a moment of reflection and meaning.

  10. Date 11: The ideal

The 11, a master number, is read as an intense form of the 2: a union placed under the sign of a shared ideal and a common drive.

The 22, a master number, doubles the 4: a date associated with long-term construction and an ambitious life project.

The 33, a master number, amplifies the 6: tradition sees in it care for others carried to its highest degree.

The calculation

Add the day, the month, and the year written with four digits, then reduce this total, digit by digit, to a single number; when the sum lands on a master number (11, 22, 33), stop there. If an intermediate total gives 13, 14, 16, or 19, keep reducing as for any date: the final number is the only one that counts here. The worked examples on this page are calculated for next year. The calculator shows the addition and offers to enter each person’s life path number (you get it from the birth date, on the life path page) to compare it with the number of the date.

Example for Saturday, September 4, 2027: 4 + 9 + 2027 = 2040, then 2 + 0 + 4 + 0 = 6.

Saturday, May 22, 2027 gives 22 + 5 + 2027 = 2054, then 2 + 0 + 5 + 4 = 11, a master number kept as it is.

How to use it

Shortlist two or three possible dates before looking at the numbers, then choose the one whose tone suits your couple: a date in 6 for a project centered on the home, a date in 3 for a big party. If your guests or the venue allow only one day, keep it: the tone is lived mostly in what you do that day, in the words exchanged and the small gestures of care. Finally, list the possible dates in a simple table, with the number of each and your availability, and let the decision rest on your loved ones’ calendar as much as on the numbers.

What the number doesn’t decide

The date does not make the marriage: life as a couple is built after the ceremony, through the decisions you make together, the everyday compromises, and listening to each other. No number, even a 6 or a 2, replaces that conversation or makes life together any easier.

Wedding date: go further

Frequently asked questions: wedding date

Is there a best wedding date?

There is no universal best date: the best one is when the people who matter can come. Numerological tradition mostly cites dates in 6 (home) or 2 (union), but a 3 or a 9 suit a couple drawn to celebration or to others very well. For each year offered, the tool’s calendar shows the Saturdays that match the number you choose.

How do you calculate the number of a wedding date?

Add the day, the month, and the full year, then reduce the total, keeping 11, 22, and 33 as they are. An intermediate total such as 16 reduces further, to 7. It is the same calculation as the life path number of a birth date; the calculator on the page shows it step by step, for the date you enter.

Is 6 the wedding number?

It is often said so, because the 6 evokes home, family, and care for loved ones. But it is not a rule: the 2 (union, closeness) is cited just as often, and other numbers describe other couples. A date in 6 gives the day a family color; it does not make the marriage any stronger.

Should the date match the spouses’ life path numbers?

Not necessarily. You can see whether the number of the date is close to one of the life path numbers or in harmony with them, according to the compatibility chart: a 2 goes with a 4, a 7, or an 8. Treat this as the pleasure of connecting numbers, not as a constraint to follow on the calendar.

Can you marry on a day whose number is a 4 or an 8?

Yes, no number is off limits. The 4 evokes stability and long-term commitment, which suits a wedding well; the 8 points to organization and joint projects. These numbers offer a calmer tone, less festive than that of the 3 or the 5, and many couples find themselves in it.

Town hall or religious ceremony: which date should you count?

Both are calculated the same way, and nothing forces you to choose. Some numerologists use the date of the civil marriage, the one on the certificate that establishes the union in the eyes of the law; others prefer the day of the party, the one guests will remember. If the two fall a few days apart, calculate both in the tool: you will see two tones that complement each other, not a good date and a bad one.

Our date is already set and we don’t like its number: what now?

Keep it. A date chosen to bring your loved ones together is worth more than any total. Read instead what its number offers: a 4 speaks of lasting commitment, a 7 of a more intimate day, a 1 of a new start. You can also calculate the date of the civil ceremony, if it differs, or compare your two life path numbers in the compatibility test. No date number decides what your life together will be.

Should you compare the wedding date with each person’s personal year?

You can do so out of curiosity. The personal year combines the digits of your birthday with those of the target year; tradition sees in it the color of a twelve-month period, within a series of nine. A personal year in 2 or 6 is associated with relationships and home, but none rules out getting married. The personal year page gives the calculation and the meaning of each number, from 1 to 9.
