Annual vibration: calculation and the 12-year cycle

The annual vibration places each year in a twelve-year loop that changes on every birthday, according to your age.

Annual vibration: the 12 values in brief

  • 1
    The time of sowing

Annual vibration 1 is the time of sowing: a cycle’s starting point, favorable to beginnings and first steps.

  • 2
    The time of roots

Annual vibration 2 is the time of roots: what was sown settles in deep, through patience and alliances.

  • 3
    The first shoots

Annual vibration 3 is the time of the first shoots: what was germinating becomes visible, with more exchanges and creativity.

  • 4
    Building the frame

Annual vibration 4 is the time of the frame: organizing, planning, and keeping a steady rhythm so the cycle lasts.

  • 5
    A year of opening up

Annual vibration 5 is the time of opening: discoveries, trips, and course adjustments widen the horizon.

  • 6
    The time of commitments

Annual vibration 6 is the time of commitments: bonds move to the center, from family to group.

  • 7
    The midpoint

Annual vibration 7 is the time of stepping back: a pause in the middle of the cycle to ask questions and take stock.

  • 8
    Efforts ripening

Annual vibration 8 is the time of results: the efforts of earlier years take shape and ask to be recognized.

  • 9
    The time of harvest

Annual vibration 9 is the time of harvest: the patient efforts of past years reach maturity.

  • 10
    Passing on and sharing

Annual vibration 10 is the time of sharing: passing on, advising, and giving your time and knowledge.

  • 11
    The time of sorting

Annual vibration 11 is the time of sorting: keeping the essentials of the cycle and letting go of what clutters.

  • 12
    Completing the cycle

Annual vibration 12 is the time of completion: finishing touches and recharging, before a new loop begins.

What is the annual vibration?

Not to be confused with the personal year: that one follows a nine-year cycle, is calculated from your birthday date, and starts on January 1. The annual vibration runs on a different clock. It depends only on your age, moves through twelve steps instead of nine, and passes from one step to the next on the day of your birthday. For the climate of the calendar year, see the page on the personal year; the vibration adds a second light on top of it.

The twelve steps follow the image of a garden through the seasons. The 1 sows, the 2 takes root, the 3 sees the first shoots appear, the 4 sets up a frame. The 5 opens new horizons, the 6 puts bonds and commitments at the center. The 7, in the middle of the loop, invites stepping back. The 8 ripens the efforts, the 9 harvests, the 10 shares. The 11 sorts what deserves to be kept, the 12 concludes and prepares the next loop.

The first loop begins at birth; a new one opens at age 12, then at 24, 36, 48, 60, and 72. Because a calendar year contains one birthday, it is split between two vibrations: the one before the date, then the one after. The vibration therefore combines with the personal year, the transit letter, and the personal months, among the markers of the present moment.

Like the other yearly markers, it points to themes and useful questions, not events. An 8 vibration does not bring a promotion by itself; it marks a favorable period for making the efforts you have already put in visible.

How to calculate it

Read: Annual vibration 4 →

Take the age you reached on your last birthday. Divide it by 12 and keep only the remainder of the division, then add 1. At age 38, for example, 38 contains three times 12 (that is 36) with 2 left over: the vibration is 3, until the 39th birthday, when it moves to 4. Before the first birthday, the age is 0 and the vibration is 1. There is no reduction: 10, 11, and 12 keep their value, because they designate a rank in the loop. Some authors start these periods on January 1; the chart aligns with the birthday instead.

Common mistakes with the annual vibration

  1. Reducing 10, 11, or 12 makes no sense here: these numbers designate a rank in the loop and keep their value.

  2. The vibration does not switch on January 1. It moves to the next step on the very day of the birthday.

  3. Counting the age you will reach during the year shifts the result by one step; only the age at your last birthday counts.

  4. After dividing by 12, the remainder is not enough; you must add 1 to it: at 36, the remainder is zero and the vibration is 1.

  5. Reading a vibration 9 like a personal year 9 means confusing two clocks, one of twelve years, the other of nine.

Frequently asked questions: annual vibration

What is the difference between annual vibration and personal year?

They are two separate calendars, read together without replacing each other. The personal year combines your birth day and month with the current calendar year, runs on a nine-year cycle, and goes from January 1 to December 31. The annual vibration depends only on your age, runs on a twelve-year cycle, and changes on the day you blow out your birthday candles.

How do you find your annual vibration?

You only need your current age. Subtract 12 as many times as you can, then add 1 to what is left. At age 45, you subtract 36 (three times 12), which leaves 9, so the vibration is 10. It stays the same until your next birthday, when it moves to 11.

Why do I have two annual vibrations in the same year?

Because the vibration changes on your birthday, while a calendar year runs from January to December. From January 1 to the day before your birthday, you remain in the vibration of your previous age; after that, the next one takes over. The later your birthday falls in the year, the more months the first one covers.

Is annual vibration 11 a master number?

No. Here, 11 stands for the eleventh step of a twelve-year loop, just as 10 and 12 stand for the tenth and the last. Nothing is reduced, and neither 22 nor 33 can appear, since the loop stops at 12. Vibration 11 is read as a time of sorting before the conclusion of vibration 12, without the particular demand that tradition attributes to the 11 in a life path number.

Do two people of the same age have the same annual vibration?

Yes, as soon as they have blown out the same number of candles. The vibration ignores both the name and the birth day: only age counts, so it sets the pace for a whole age group at the same step. What sets two 30-year-olds apart lies in the rest of their profile, starting with the personal year and the transit letter, with which the vibration combines.

What is the annual vibration at age 50?

A vibration 3. The calculation: 50 contains four times 12, which is 48, leaving 2, and you add 1. It covers the year from the 50th to the 51st birthday. The loop that opened at age 48 is then at its third step, the stage of first shoots: a good moment to show what was sown two years earlier, to talk about it, and to put it in front of other people’s eyes.

How do you calculate the annual vibration for a February 29 birth?

As for any other date, with one clarification. In leap years, the vibration changes on February 29. In other years, that day is missing from the calendar: in the calculation used here, the birthday is then counted on March 1, and the vibration changes that day. The age used remains the one given by civil registration: a person born on February 29, 2000 turned 21 on March 1, 2021, even though their exact day appears on the calendar only one year in four.

How do you combine annual vibration and personal year?

By layering them: the personal year gives the theme, the vibration the way into it. A personal year 1, geared toward launching, lived under a vibration 7, which invites stepping back, suggests for example starting after a time of preparation rather than on a burst of momentum. The same year 1 under a vibration 5 pushes instead to try things quickly, even if it means correcting along the way.

Where do you find your annual vibration in the report?

In the “Where you stand” chapter, alongside the personal months, the personal year, and the letter of your name for the year. Because the year studied contains a birthday, the report gives two values: the vibration before that date, then the one after, each with the matching age and a short text on the theme of that step.

  • Personal year

The personal year gives the climate of a year within a nine-year cycle, based on your birthday and the year chosen.

  • Transit letter

Your transit letter is the letter of your name that goes with one particular year: a second color, set beside your personal year.

  • Personal month

Your personal month divides the personal year into twelve stretches: each month gets a number from 1 to 9 that colors its priorities.
