    Specializing and going deeper

Productive cycle 7 turns working life toward depth: expertise, research, specialization, deep thinking.

  • 8
    Leading and managing

Productive cycle 8 describes a working life geared toward ambition: decision-making roles, management, negotiations, and measurable results.

  • 9
    Giving your work meaning

Productive cycle 9 makes working life a search for meaning: being useful, passing things on, opening to other cultures.

  • 11
    Inspiring and passing on

Productive cycle 11 describes a working life guided by intuition and inspiration, often in service of others.

  • 22
    Building to last

Productive cycle 22 opens, in working life, a period of great achievements: collective projects, structures to found, works that serve others.

What is the productive cycle?

Of the three life cycles, the productive cycle is the longest and often the busiest. It opens in the late twenties, when the formative cycle ends, and lasts until the edge of your sixties, when the harvest cycle takes over. This is the age of building: a career, a home, sometimes a business, a network, a reputation.

The number of this cycle describes the terrain of that period. It does not say which job to take or what is going to happen; it points to the kind of situations that come up and the way of moving forward that bears the most fruit. A productive cycle 2 highlights partnerships and working in pairs; an 8, budgets, negotiations, and decision-making roles; a 7, specialization and expertise. The same number is not lived as it was in childhood: what was a climate you went through becomes a terrain you choose, shape, and make adult decisions on.

This cycle is best read alongside the birthday number, from which it is drawn and which describes a talent, and the second and third pinnacles, which fall in roughly the same years. When it fits the life path number, your thirties and forties often feel like moving in the right direction. When it cuts against it, it pushes you to develop a skill that does not come naturally.

The ages are only reference points. Entering this cycle often coincides with a turning point: a more stable position, the birth of a child, a career change, a move to another region.

How to calculate it

Read: Productive cycle 5 →

Start from the birth day and add its two digits, repeating if the total exceeds 9, except for 11 and 22. A 17 gives 8, a 30 gives 3, a 28 gives 10 and then 1. The 11 and the 22 stay as they are, and the 29 ends up as 11. The cycle starts with the personal year 1 closest to the 28th birthday and gives way to the harvest cycle with the one nearest the 57th: it therefore begins between ages 24 and 32 and ends between 53 and 61. A fixed switch, at 28 and then at 56 for everyone, is also common.

Common mistakes with the productive cycle

  1. Making 29 a simple 2: that day ends up as 11, and 22 stays 22.

  2. Starting from the month, as for the first cycle. The second is drawn from the day alone.

  3. Fixing its limits at 28 and 56 for everyone; here, it begins between 24 and 32 and ends between 53 and 61.

  4. Reading it as the birthday number. Same starting point, but the cycle reduces the day and describes a period, whereas the full day points to a talent.

Frequently asked questions: productive cycle

How do you calculate your productive cycle?

Reduce the birth day by adding its digits, stopping as soon as only one is left, except for 11 and 22, which are kept. A birth on the 26th gives 2 + 6 = 8; the 19th gives 10, then 1. People born on the 11th, 22nd, or 29th keep a master number, with 29 ending up as 11. The month and the year play no part in this calculation.

At what age does the productive cycle begin?

The productive cycle opens with a personal year 1 falling within four years of your 28th birthday: between ages 24 and 32, then. It closes in the same way near age 57, between 53 and 61. Many sites simply fix these limits at 28 and 56. In practice, the shift generally spreads over a year or two.

Does the productive cycle only concern work?

No. It describes the climate of the whole active adult life, and work is only part of it. It also colors life as a couple, the family you start or not, community involvement, and the way you manage personal projects. It is called productive because these are the years when you build the most, whatever the field.

Productive cycle or productivity cycle: what is the difference?

None, it is the same cycle. Some sites call it the productivity cycle or the action cycle, others the second cycle. All draw it from the reduced birth day and place it in mid-life. Only the ages vary, from 28 to 56 for many, from 30 to 50 for others.

What is the difference between the productive cycle and the birthday number?

They start from the same number but do not tell the same story. The birthday number is read in full, from 1 to 31, and describes a personal talent: the 17 does not resemble the 26. The productive cycle reduces that day, with the 17 and the 26 both leading to 8, and describes the climate of a period, the situations these years present to you. One speaks of what you know how to do, the other of the terrain where you practice it.

Can the productive cycle be a master number?

Yes, for three days of the month: the 11th and 29th lead to a productive cycle 11, the 22nd to a productive cycle 22. These master numbers describe more demanding adult years, turned toward inspiring a group for the 11, toward a large-scale project for the 22. Many also live them at times as a 2 or a 4, with more ordinary needs for cooperation and method.

What is the rarest productive cycle?

The 22, because only one day a month leads to it: for dates between 1950 and 2010, it concerns barely more than 3%. Next come the 11 and the 2, two days each. The 1 and the 3 are on the contrary the most common, with four days each: the 1st, 10th, 19th, and 28th for the first, the 3rd, 12th, 21st, and 30th for the second. Rarity adds nothing to a cycle’s value.

What if your productive cycle contradicts your life path number?

Read it as an apprenticeship rather than a wrong turn. A life path 7, drawn to study, going through a productive cycle 8 may find itself handling budgets or leading a team: these years call for an ability far from its natural slope, which remains acquired afterward. The gap is often felt as tension at the start of the cycle, then as one more string to your bow.

How do you know what year your productive cycle began?

The cycle opens on the personal year 1 that falls closest to age 28. Take a birth on April 23, 1986: in 2017, 23 + 4 + 2017 = 2044, reduced to 10 and then 1. This person is then 31; the previous year 1, in 2008, arrived at age 22, farther from the target. Their productive cycle 5 therefore begins in 2017, and the harvest will take over around age 58.

  • Birthday number

Your birthday number points to a specific talent that matures in adulthood and that people around you gradually recognize.

  • Formative cycle

The formative cycle is the first life cycle: your birth month describes the atmosphere you grew up in, up to about age 28.

  • Harvest cycle

The harvest cycle is the third major life cycle: it colors the years of full maturity, from about age 57.

  • Pinnacle

The four pinnacles, which some schools call peaks, divide life into major periods drawn from the birth date.
