Meaning of News

News speaks of what is said. The card evokes a message, a piece of information, an exchange of words that slightly changes how you see the situation. It carries no content: it only reminds you that information circulates and deserves to be received with attention.

In the Mercury series, it underlines the role of communication. A clear word at the right moment calms many misunderstandings; an approximate piece of information, by contrast, feeds assumptions. It helps to check before passing something on.

Its reverse side is rumor: letting yourself be carried by what is being told, or keeping quiet about what would be better expressed.

News in your life

In love

In an affectionate bond, News speaks of dialogue: a message to send, a conversation to open, or a word that reassures and brings you closer.

At work

In your work, the card puts information forward: an email to clarify, an instruction to check, a point to share with the team.

News in a reading

In its position

News adds a dimension of speech to the question: information is circulating and needs checking before any conclusion.

Mercury series

Exchanges: ideas, trade, news, the flow of money.

Change, Money, Intelligence, Theft-Loss, Ventures, Trade

The Belline cards help you look at a situation from another angle: they predict nothing, and the choice remains yours.

Its place in the deck

News bears the number 24 and closes the Mercury series, which extends from card 18 to card 24. It sits beside Intelligence, Ventures, and Trade, cards all turned toward speech, ideas, and exchange. Versana reads it as information to check, never lending it a content.

Where the sources disagree

  • Tone of the cards: A ranking set by the site from the name of each card, with no old source: 21 supportive cards, 14 demanding, 18 neutral. It gives the tone of a reading, never an answer or a yes or no.
  • Dominant series: When one planet comes up more often than the others in a reading (at least two cards), its series colors the interpretation. A modern reading rule, described by several guides; cards outside the series are not part of the count.
  • Images of the cards: The drawings attributed to the mage Edmond (died 1881) are old, but the cards published since 1961 and the Mucem photographs are not under a free license. The site draws its own pictograms and reproduces no card.
