Meaning of Intelligence

Intelligence speaks of the mind at work. The card evokes lucidity, quick understanding, the art of linking scattered elements into a coherent whole. It values ingenuity, that well-used cleverness that finds the way out where you saw only a wall.

Under Mercury, which governs thought and speech, it invites you to clarify your ideas in writing or out loud, to ask the opinion of a knowledgeable person, and to stay open to another way of seeing.

Its reverse side is the mind spinning its wheels: endless analysis, skill put at the service of the ego rather than of understanding.

Intelligence in your life

In love

In matters of the heart, understanding each other better takes clear words: naming what you think, hearing the reply, adjusting.

At work

At work, it is time to structure: a clean plan, an inventive solution, a crystal-clear explanation to share.

Intelligence in a reading

In its position

A lucidity is added to the line: spot what becomes clear when you take the time to think it through.

Mercury series

Exchanges: ideas, trade, news, the flow of money.

Change, Money, Theft-Loss, Ventures, Trade, News

The Belline cards help you look at a situation from another angle: they predict nothing, and the choice remains yours.

Its place in the deck

Twentieth card, Intelligence takes its place in the Mercury series, the planet associated with thought, alongside Change, Money, and Theft-Loss. Versana reads it as a clarity of mind to put at the service of understanding.

Reflecting on Intelligence

A question

Which situation would benefit from being seen with more clarity and a little less emotion?

A gesture

Lay out on a sheet of paper the facts, options, and criteria for a pending decision, then reread with a rested mind.

Where the sources disagree

  • Tone of the cards: A ranking set by the site from the name of each card, with no old source: 21 supportive cards, 14 demanding, 18 neutral. It gives the tone of a reading, never an answer or a yes or no.
  • Dominant series: When one planet comes up more often than the others in a reading (at least two cards), its series colors the interpretation. A modern reading rule, described by several guides; cards outside the series are not part of the count.
  • Images of the cards: The drawings attributed to the mage Edmond (died 1881) are old, but the cards published since 1961 and the Mucem photographs are not under a free license. The site draws its own pictograms and reproduces no card.
