Meaning of Delay

Delay speaks of rhythm. The card points to a setback, a wait, something moving more slowly than planned. It puts no number on anything and does not say whether it will last: it suggests looking at what this slowdown offers.

In the Saturn series, which teaches patience, this lag is not a loss. It leaves time to check, adjust, and let a decision ripen. What is rushed often comes undone; what takes its time is built more solidly.

Its downside is impatience, which pushes you to force a door that is still closed or to give up everything at the first obstacle. A slow rhythm is not a stop.

Delay in your life

In love

In a couple, Delay speaks of a bond that benefits from being left at its own pace: no need to press for an answer or a decision.

At work

At work, the card evokes a file that drags or a late approval: take the chance to make things more reliable and clearer.

Delay in a reading

In its position

Delay indicates a slower rhythm in the situation: it invites you to be patient without fading and to make the wait work for you.

Saturn series

Long time: limits, trials, withdrawal, maturity.

Misfortune, Sterility, Fatality, Grace, Ruin, Cloister

The Belline cards help you look at a situation from another angle: they predict nothing, and the choice remains yours.

Its place in the deck

Delay is card 51 of Saturn; this planet has long symbolized time and patience. It keeps company with Cloister, Grace, Misfortune, Fatality, and Sterility. Versana reads in it a rhythm to respect, with no announced timeframe.

Where the sources disagree

  • Tone of the cards: A ranking set by the site from the name of each card, with no old source: 21 supportive cards, 14 demanding, 18 neutral. It gives the tone of a reading, never an answer or a yes or no.
  • Dominant series: When one planet comes up more often than the others in a reading (at least two cards), its series colors the interpretation. A modern reading rule, described by several guides; cards outside the series are not part of the count.
  • Images of the cards: The drawings attributed to the mage Edmond (died 1881) are old, but the cards published since 1961 and the Mucem photographs are not under a free license. The site draws its own pictograms and reproduces no card.
