Meaning of Departure

Departure speaks of movement. The card evokes the moment you leave a place, a routine, a group, or a project to turn toward something else. It does not say whether this passage is big or small: it looks mostly at what pushes you to move and what travels with you.

Under the Moon, it touches on urges that rise in waves. It invites you to tell the longing for elsewhere that nourishes from the one that only runs away, then to prepare what can be prepared: a bag, a word, a clear agreement.

No departure is announced and no breakup is predicted. Its reverse side is restlessness, when you move without knowing why.

Departure in your life

In love

In matters of the heart, the card speaks of chosen distance or a pull toward another way of living as a couple; better to talk about it than to keep quiet.

At work

At work, it evokes a change of position, method, or location, to be considered with a plan rather than on a whim.

Departure in a reading

In its position

A movement runs through the line: look at what is left, what is aimed for, and whether the path between the two is clear.

Moon series

Sensitivity: emotions, intuitions, inner movements, what fluctuates.

Betrayal, Inconstancy, Discovery, Water, The Household Gods, Illness

The Belline cards help you look at a situation from another angle: they predict nothing, and the choice remains yours.

Its place in the deck

Twelfth card, Departure belongs to the Moon series, which runs from card 11 to card 17. There it meets Betrayal, Inconstancy, and Discovery. For Versana, it is a drive to examine, never an announcement of a breakup.

Where the sources disagree

  • Tone of the cards: A ranking set by the site from the name of each card, with no old source: 21 supportive cards, 14 demanding, 18 neutral. It gives the tone of a reading, never an answer or a yes or no.
  • Dominant series: When one planet comes up more often than the others in a reading (at least two cards), its series colors the interpretation. A modern reading rule, described by several guides; cards outside the series are not part of the count.
  • Images of the cards: The drawings attributed to the mage Edmond (died 1881) are old, but the cards published since 1961 and the Mucem photographs are not under a free license. The site draws its own pictograms and reproduces no card.
