When it goes off balance
When the 19 goes off balance, the light becomes a spotlight aimed at others.
You know what is good for your spouse, your sister, your colleague, and you repeat it until they avoid the subject. An idea that was generous at the start, a diet, a cause, a parenting method, turns into a crusade. Behind the smile there is sometimes a stubborn jealousy at a loved one’s promotion. You may pour all your affection onto one person and smother them with messages, advice, surprises. Work devours the evenings, vacations are spent on the phone, and the aperitif stretches out to unwind. Then comes the downside: guilt, self-reproach, sudden anger. These drifts often follow a lack of recognition, a conflict with the father, or a period spent living to please.
