When it goes off balance
When the 9 goes off balance, withdrawal turns into flight.
Weekends go by behind a screen, calls from the family go unanswered, one declined invitation leads to ten more. You skimp on everything that concerns you, worn-out shoes, the dentist put off, meals eaten standing up, then you spend all at once for no clear reason. Knowledge becomes a fortress: you correct others, you sort people into sharp minds and slow ones, you keep to yourself what could help them. Mistrust sets in, and you suspect hidden intentions behind a compliment. Others throw themselves into dead-end affairs to avoid facing silence, or into a rigid spirituality that despises the body. The ground for these drifts: a betrayal, a bereavement, children leaving home, years of work never recognized.
