The trine in a chart
A child who draws accurately without ever taking a lesson, a colleague who eases a tense meeting with a single sentence: the trine resembles those gifts you do not remember learning.
The two planets are 120° apart, generally in two signs of the same element, fire, earth, air, or water. They share a temperament and flow toward each other without resistance, like two instruments tuned to the same scale.
Tradition calls it harmonic, and it is the most fluid of the aspects. Sun trine Jupiter would give a confidence that attracts opportunities; Mercury trine Saturn, a methodical mind that does not tire; Moon trine Venus, a gentleness that soothes those around. The person lives these accords as a given, so much so that they do not always notice them. The calculation accepts up to 7° around the 120°, and 8° if a luminary is involved.
Its downside is comfort. Because nothing forces you to work this talent, it can remain at the stage of potential. A chart rich in trines and poor in tensions would describe an easier life, but also one less pushed toward effort. Astrologers often advise leaning on a square or an opposition to put these gifts to work: the ease then serves a project, instead of spinning idly.
