The sky of April
Pink Moon: the name would come from an early prairie flower of North America, and not from the color of the disk, which stays white.
In France, peasant tradition fears at the same time of year the lune rousse, accused of scorching buds; in the 19th century, François Arago already attributed this damage to the clear sky, which lets the heat of the ground escape during the night. The April full moon culminates lower, between 25 and 35°. Arcturus, the orange star of Boötes, rises in the east; you find it by extending the curve of the Big Dipper’s handle, which is then almost overhead.
