The Sun passes through it in the heart of autumn, when leaves fall and nature withdraws underground to prepare its renewal. Water gives emotional intensity and intuition, the fixed modality gives tenacity, Mars gives courage, and Pluto, added in the 20th century, gives the idea of transformation. This mix explains the reputation of an all-in sign, one that does nothing by halves.
A Scorpio person would have a penetrating gaze. They guess what hides behind a façade smile, ask the question everyone avoids, and are drawn to what is hidden: investigations, secret history, psychology. They give little of themselves, but their loyalty to those they have chosen is deep. In a crisis, they keep their cool and know how to act with determination when others panic.
The downside lies in the need for control. Mistrust protects, but it can prevent trusting, and reserve sometimes becomes secrecy. A wound is hard to forget, and resentment can last. Intensity, appreciated in strong moments, can weigh on daily life. Astrologers set Scorpio against Taurus, the sign of stability and simple pleasures: Scorpio would do well to look there for a little lightness, so that its depth does not become a burden.

Scorpio in your life
In love
A Scorpio person would be wholehearted and passionate.
They do not commit lightly, but when they love, it is with intensity and loyalty. They look for a deep relationship, where the truth is told even when it is uncomfortable, where trust is earned and deserved. Superficial relationships bore them; they prefer a strong bond, even a demanding one, to a lukewarm relationship.
This intensity has its downsides: a mere suspicion can awaken jealousy, and the need for control can smother the relationship. A betrayal, real or felt, is hard to forgive. Tradition recommends that they name their fears rather than let them grow in silence, and accept that trust involves a share of risk: a partner free in their movements is not a partner lost.
At work
Scorpio would find its way in investigation, research, crisis management, analysis, finance, strategy, or support work: anything that calls for getting to the bottom of things or transforming a situation.
A Scorpio person knows how to keep a secret, hold up under pressure, and see a difficult project through to the end.
Their difficulties come down to trust. They may find it hard to delegate, share information, or work with people they judge unreliable. Power struggles sometimes attract them more than they serve them. They gain by making their intentions visible, saying clearly what bothers them, and acknowledging others’ work. Their tenacity then becomes a front-line asset in situations where everything seems stuck.
In daily life
A Scorpio person enjoys activities that require concentration: reading detective novels, research, strategy games, deep discussions in small groups.
They need time alone to recharge and prefer a few solid friendships to a wide circle of acquaintances. Their home often resembles a refuge, away from prying eyes.
The trap would be to go around in circles with their thoughts or to dwell on what hurt them. Tradition suggests concrete outlets: writing, creating, practicing an activity that channels their intensity. It also invites them to lighten their days with simple moments with nothing at stake, a meal among friends, an unplanned outing, so that depth remains a richness and not a weight.
Scorpio: decans, compatibility, and tradition
The 3 decans of Scorpio
Each sign divides into three decans of about ten days, each with its own nuance.
Two traditions give them a ruling planet or sign. Dates for 2026.
1st decan
In 2026
October 23 to November 2
Planet
Mars
Associated sign
Scorpio (Mars)
Mars, traditional ruler of Scorpio, also holds the first face: the two schools meet, and moderns add Pluto. This third would be the most wholehearted, that of will without detours, total commitments, and refusals without appeal.
The Sun for the Chaldean order, Pisces and Jupiter for the triplicities. The sign’s intensity would become more radiant here, or more idealistic and compassionate: a depth placed at the service of a cause, a search, a person to help.
Venus as face, Cancer and the Moon as triplicity: the last slice of Scorpio would be the most affective. Memory of bonds, attachment to the clan, vivid emotions protected behind great reserve.
With Cancer and Pisces, Scorpio would share the same emotional depth, made of reserve and loyalty.
Virgo and Capricorn, in sextile, would bring structure and steadiness. Leo and Aquarius, fixed signs in square, would run up against its will, and Taurus, opposite, would attract it through a calm that either soothes or irritates it. A real relationship depends on two whole people, not on two symbols.

Mythology and tradition
The celestial Scorpion would be the one that killed Orion.
Eratosthenes and Hyginus (De astronomia II, 26) report two versions: the giant hunter boasted of being able to strike down all the beasts of the earth, or else attacked Artemis; the Earth, or the goddess herself, then sent a scorpion that stung him fatally. The two adversaries were placed at the two ends of the sky: when the Scorpion rises in the east, Orion sets in the west, as if he were still fleeing. Babylonian astronomers already drew a scorpion in these stars, which the Greeks extended with its claws, before they became Libra.
The main star, Antares, owes its name to the Greek for “rival of Ares,” because of its red color close to that of the planet Mars. In astrology, Ptolemy makes Scorpio the second domicile of Mars, and Manilius also ties it to the god of war. Pluto, first observed in 1930, was added over the course of the 20th century by a large share of modern authors, who see in it transformation and the depths. Ptolemy gives it no exaltation, and the Moon would be in fall there.

Are you really Scorpio?
Scorpio runs from October 23 or 24 to November 21 or 22. For a birth on one of these edges, everything depends on the year and the time: two birthdays celebrated on a November 22, in different years, can correspond to two different signs. The table gives the precise moment of each changeover, over two years; the rising sign calculator also tells you your Sun sign.
From October 23 or 24 to November 21 or 22, barely thirty days: the Sun seems to move faster as winter approaches, when the Earth gets closer to it. The moment of entry varies by a few hours each year, and can fall in the middle of the night. A birth near these edges is checked from the year, time, and place; the calculated changeovers appear in the table on the page.
Mars or Pluto: which is Scorpio’s planet?
Both, depending on the school. Tradition, since Ptolemy, entrusts Scorpio to Mars, which also rules Aries. Pluto, spotted in 1930 by Clyde Tombaugh, has been given the sign by many modern authors. The two readings coexist: Mars would give the sign its courage, Pluto its intensity. Venus, ruler of the opposite sign Taurus, would be in detriment here, and the Moon in fall.
Why does Scorpio have a bad reputation?
Its reputation comes from its symbol, a venomous animal, and from its association with Mars and Pluto, planets of struggle and of the depths. Magazines have made it a jealous, vindictive, or secretive sign. Tradition describes rather an intensity, a loyalty, and a courage that can, in excess, become mistrust or resentment. It is a symbolic portrait, which the rest of the chart always nuances.
Which signs is Scorpio compatible with?
Books cite Cancer and Pisces, which share its depth, then Virgo and Capricorn, reputed to be reliable and steady. Taurus, at the opposite, forms with it a much-studied axis of attraction and resistance. These affinities say nothing about the future of a couple; putting the two charts side by side, Moon, Venus, and Mars included, gives a more accurate picture.
Does Scorpio hold grudges?
Tradition lends it a tenacious memory of wounds, tied to water, the element of emotions, and to the fixed modality, which holds on. This trait has a positive counterpart: a lasting loyalty toward those who helped it. A Scorpio person is not necessarily resentful; everything depends on their whole chart and their history. The sign would gain above all from saying what hurts, instead of keeping it to themselves.
