In tradition, Pisces is the sign of fusion and imagination.
The Sun passes through it in the last weeks of winter, when nature prepares to be reborn and the boundary between two seasons blurs. Water brings receptivity, the mutable modality brings flexibility, and Jupiter brings generosity and faith. Moderns associate Neptune with it, discovered in 1846, the planet of dreams and of limits that dissolve. Last of the twelve, the sign would sum up all the others, as a river joins the sea.
A Pisces person would feel intensely what surrounds them. They sense the atmosphere of a meeting before a word is said, understand another person’s pain without being told, and often show great kindness. Their imagination is rich: music, poetry, film, and spirituality feed their inner life. They adapt to very different settings and know how to be present without imposing. Many confide their worries to them, because they listen without judging.
The downside lies in limits. Sensitivity can make them an emotional sponge, and compassion an inability to refuse anything. The temptation to flee reality, through dreams or procrastination, sometimes delays necessary decisions, and idealization sets up disappointment. Astrologers set Pisces against Virgo, the sign of analysis and the concrete: Pisces would benefit from a little of its method, so that its generosity finds a lasting form instead of being diluted.

Pisces in your life
In love
Pisces people would be romantic and devoted.
They love deeply, with tenderness and imagination, and look for a bond where words become almost unnecessary. Attentive to the other person’s needs, they are ready to give a great deal. For them, the relationship often takes on an almost spiritual dimension.
This generosity has its fragility. The tendency to idealize a partner can lead to disappointment, and the need for fusion can make them forget their own needs. Difficulty saying no can draw them into unbalanced relationships. Tradition invites them to keep their feet on the ground, to express their expectations, and to protect their personal space: a lasting love also needs clear limits.
At work
Pisces would flourish in support work, creative work, and everything touching the imagination: the arts, music, writing, film, social work, teaching, and listening professions.
Their intuition and empathy are valuable on a team: people of the sign perceive the tensions in a group and know how to ease them.
Highly competitive or overly structured environments can unsettle them. They risk being overwhelmed by others’ demands, putting off deadlines, or lacking assertiveness. They gain by relying on simple organizational tools, setting clear limits on their availability, and valuing their creativity. Their sensitivity then becomes a recognized skill, not a fragility.
In daily life
A Pisces person needs moments of daydreaming and calm: music, reading, a walk by the water, an artistic activity.
They are often very available to those close to them and sensitive to the atmosphere of places. A soft interior, soothing colors, and objects full of meaning help them recharge.
The risk is being overwhelmed by disorder or by demands. Forgotten bills, promises made to everyone, and days without structure can submerge them. Tradition suggests a minimal framework, a few simple routines, a list of priorities, time apart that is openly claimed, and a habit of saying no without guilt. Their dreams then find firmer ground.
Pisces: decans, compatibility, and tradition
The 3 decans of Pisces
Each sign divides into three decans of about ten days, each with its own nuance.
Two traditions give them a ruling planet or sign. Dates for 2026.
1st decan
In 2026
February 18 to February 28
Planet
Saturn
Associated sign
Pisces (Jupiter)
Saturn for the faces, Jupiter, ruler of the sign, for the triplicities, and Neptune for the moderns. This first third would be serious and introspective according to one school, dreamy and generous according to the other, with in both cases a very rich inner life, fed by reading, music, or silence.
Jupiter, Chaldean face, sits alongside the Moon, ruler through Cancer. We would describe Pisces as confident and open, or closely tied to home and family memory: a sensitivity turned first toward loved ones, family, and shared memory, which knows how to welcome without asking questions.
Both schools name Mars for the final slice, as face and as ruler of Scorpio; moderns add Pluto. This would be the most intense and determined third, able to fight for what it believes in.
Pisces would swim in the same waters as Cancer and Scorpio: these two signs understand its sensitivity without explanation.
Taurus and Capricorn, in sextile, would offer it the stable shore it sometimes lacks. Gemini and Sagittarius, mutable signs in square, would pull it in too many directions, and Virgo, opposite, brings it back to the concrete. Affinities in principle, which life confirms or contradicts.

Mythology and tradition
The celestial Fishes are said to be Aphrodite and her son Eros.
Hyginus (De astronomia II, 30) and Ovid (Fasti II) tell that, fleeing the monster Typhon on the banks of the Euphrates, the goddess and the child threw themselves into the river and changed into fish, or were carried to safety by two fish. So as not to lose each other, they are said to have tied themselves together: the star Alrescha, “the cord” in Arabic, marks the knot that joins the two fish in the constellation. Hyginus also reports that some peoples of Syria refrained, out of respect, from eating fish.
In astrology, Pisces is the second domicile of Jupiter for Ptolemy and the place where Venus is exalted, at the 27th degree; Mercury has both detriment and fall here. Neptune, discovered in 1846, was also assigned to it by the moderns, as ruler of dreams and oceans. Manilius assigns it to Neptune, god of the seas, which goes without saying for fish. Precession has brought the vernal point, the start of the tropical zodiac, into the constellation of Pisces, where it still lies.

In 2026, the Sun moves through Pisces from February 18 (4:51 PM) to March 20 (3:45 PM), Paris time
Are you really Pisces?
Pisces begins on February 18 or 19 and ends with the equinox, on March 20 or 21. A birth on these dates may belong to Pisces or to a neighboring sign, depending on the year and the time: no general table can settle it. The two rows of the table give the exact moments; for an older birth, a calculation with the time and the place gives the answer.
From February 18 or 19 to the spring equinox, on March 20 or 21. Pisces lasts about thirty days, and its end marks the start of a new zodiacal cycle with Aries. For a birth near these dates, notably in late February in leap years, only the time of birth, built into the calculation, can settle it; the table on the page shows the changeovers.
Jupiter or Neptune: which is Pisces’s planet?
Both answers exist. Ptolemy assigns Pisces to Jupiter, which also rules Sagittarius; Neptune, discovered in 1846, was given to it by many modern authors. Jupiter would give the sign its generosity and faith, Neptune its imagination and sensitivity to atmospheres. Venus is exalted here at the 27th degree, while Mercury, ruler of opposite Virgo, would have both detriment and fall.
Are Pisces too sensitive?
Tradition attributes to them a great receptivity to emotions, tied to water and to Neptune. This sensitivity is a richness: it allows understanding, comforting, and creating. It becomes hard to live with when it is not protected by clear limits. A Pisces person is not necessarily fragile; the Moon, the rising sign, and the rest of the chart nuance this portrait a great deal.
Which signs is Pisces compatible with?
Cancer and Scorpio share their sensitivity, and Taurus and Capricorn would offer them a stable framework. Virgo, the opposite sign, forms with them the axis of dreams and analysis. These solar tendencies remain general; only comparing two complete charts truly sheds light on a couple, in particular the placement of Venus and the Moon in each.
Why is Pisces the last sign?
Because the tropical zodiac begins at the spring equinox with Aries: Pisces covers the last thirty degrees before that point, at the end of winter. Tradition would see in it the end of a cycle, of the synthesis and dissolution that precede a renewal. It is not a ranking of value: each sign occupies an equal place of 30° on the circle.
