The Sun passes through it when spring has settled in, when the fields turn green and the season no longer makes promises but keeps them. A fixed earth sign ruled by Venus, it would combine the stability of the element, the perseverance of the modality, and the Venusian taste for what is beautiful, good, and tangible. The Moon is exalted here: authors see in it a sensitivity that finds reassurance in continuity.
In concrete terms, a Taurus person would move at their own pace, without letting themselves be rushed. They like knowing what lies ahead: a clear budget, a home where everything has its place, friendships of long standing. They enjoy simple, material pleasures, a good meal shared, a pleasant fabric, a garden that produces. Their word is binding: what is promised ends up being done, even if slowly.
The downside of this solidity is well known. Attachment to habits can turn into stubbornness, and a project well launched becomes hard to bend, even when circumstances have changed. Material caution sometimes borders on possessiveness, toward objects as well as loved ones. Astrologers readily pair the sign with its opposite, Scorpio, to recall what Taurus gains by accepting that everything that has been built may one day be transformed, without it being a loss.
Strengths
Seeing a project through, at a steady pace.
Keeping your word, even when it takes time.
Creating a stable, reassuring home for those close to you.
Knowing how to enjoy what is here, without chasing the rest.
Watch points
Clinging to a path that everything invites you to leave.
Putting off a decision so as not to have to change anything.
Keeping to yourself what would benefit from being shared.
Brooding in silence instead of saying what weighs on you.
Taurus in your life
In love
Taurus would be a sign of faithfulness and presence.
A Taurus person takes their time before any commitment, observes, and checks that the attraction holds beyond the first few weeks. Once bonded, they express their attachment through tangible proof rather than grand declarations: a dinner prepared, a weekend organized, an attention repeated for years. Tenderness and shared comfort matter a great deal.
This need for security has its downside. Jealousy can arise from a mere change of habit in the partner, and discomfort is kept for a long time before bursting out, all at once, over a detail. Tradition advises the sign to name early what bothers it, and to see in the other person’s changes a way of keeping the bond alive rather than a threat to what the two have built.
At work
Taurus would be the ally of long-term projects.
A Taurus person excels where something has to be managed, maintained, and made to bear fruit: finance, crafts, farming, real estate, trades of taste and materials. Their practical sense quickly spots what costs too much or will not hold up. A team knows it can count on them to deliver, without flash but without fault.
Sudden changes put them in difficulty. A reorganization announced overnight, a tool imposed without explanation, a priority that changes every week: all of it unsettles them and makes them wary. They gain by asking for the timeline and the reasons behind a transformation, which lets them accept it at their own pace, and by remembering that a proven method is not necessarily the only good one. Their endurance then becomes an asset during periods of transition.
In daily life
A Taurus person looks after their surroundings: a comfortable interior, fixed landmarks, objects chosen to last.
They appreciate rituals, the Saturday market, coffee taken in the same spot, the Sunday walk. Managing their accounts with method and preparing their material future reassures them deeply.
Yet too much comfort lies in wait. The same routes, the same dishes, and the same outings end up shrinking the world, and the fear of going without sometimes drives them to accumulate more than to enjoy. Tradition offers the sign a small, regular novelty, chosen and not imposed: an unfamiliar neighborhood, a recipe never tried, an object given away rather than kept. These changes, on their own scale, maintain flexibility without threatening the stability they hold dear.
Taurus: decans, compatibility, and tradition
The 3 decans of Taurus
Each sign divides into three decans of about ten days, each with its own nuance.
Two traditions give them a ruling planet or sign. Dates for 2026.
1st decan
In 2026
April 20 to April 30
Planet
Mercury
Associated sign
Taurus (Venus)
In the Chaldean order, Mercury opens Taurus; in the triplicities, the sign is ruled by itself, through Venus. This first third would therefore blend a sense for trade with a taste for beautiful things, along with a typical caution: you compare, you negotiate, you choose what will last.
Second slice: the Moon in the Chaldean order, Virgo and its ruler Mercury for the other school. Tradition describes a Taurus concerned with its own people and with practical matters, who tidies, plans, and maintains. Security would come here through organization.
Saturn brings together the votes of both schools on this last third: he is the third face and the ruler of Capricorn. One would read here the most enduring and thrifty Taurus, capable of slow ambitions, but also the most attached to what it owns.
With Virgo and Capricorn, Taurus would share the same earth: patience, concrete tastes, lasting projects.
Cancer and Pisces, in sextile, would bring the softness of water. Leo and Aquarius, in square, would challenge its habits each in their own way, and Scorpio, opposite, would attract it through an intensity that disturbs it as much as it fascinates it. None of this replaces the real meeting of two people.

Mythology and tradition
The celestial Bull would be the god himself.
According to the myth taken up by Eratosthenes, Hyginus (De astronomia II, 21), and Ovid (Metamorphoses II), Zeus takes the form of a white bull to approach Europa, daughter of King Agenor, who is playing on a Phoenician beach. She climbs onto his back; the animal enters the sea and carries her to Crete. Another version, reported by Hyginus, sees Io here, changed into a heifer. The constellation shows only the front of the bull, as if emerging from the waves, and holds two famous clusters, the Pleiades and the Hyades.
In Mesopotamia already, this region of the sky was called the Bull of Heaven, a name often linked to the celestial bull of the Epic of Gilgamesh. Greek astrologers house Venus here and exalt the Moon, at the 3rd degree according to Ptolemy; in Manilius, it is Venus who watches over it. The planet of pleasure and beauty, tied to a stable earth sign, would give Taurus its double face: enjoying the sensory world and wanting to preserve it.

Are you really Taurus?
Between Aries and Taurus, the border is crossed on April 19 or 20; between Taurus and Gemini, on May 20 or 21. The hour of the crossing changes every year and can fall at night. A birth on those days belongs to one sign or the other, never both: there is no in-between sign. The table gives the moment of the crossing, to the minute, for two years in a row.
Usually April 20 to May 20. Some years, the entry takes place as early as April 19, and the exit on the early morning of May 21, French time. Taurus thus lasts a little over thirty days, because the Sun slightly slows its apparent course as summer approaches. For a borderline date, the “What is my zodiac sign?” tool goes back to 1940 and gives the moment of the crossing.
What is the ruling planet of Taurus?
Venus rules Taurus, as she rules Libra: it is one of the two domiciles Ptolemy assigns her. In Taurus, she would take on a sensual, earthy color, whereas she would be more relational and aesthetic in Libra. The Moon is exalted here, at the 3rd degree, and Mars would be in detriment. No modern ruler has been added to it.
Is Taurus really stubborn?
It is the most common reproach, and tradition ties it to the sign’s fixed modality: what is under way tends to continue. This is a tendency, not a compulsory trait. The same firmness makes it possible to keep a commitment, resist fashions, and finish a long piece of work. It becomes stubbornness when it refuses new facts. The rest of the chart, the Moon or the rising sign in particular, can accentuate or soften this trait.
Which signs are compatible with Taurus?
The earth signs, Virgo and Capricorn, share its constancy; Cancer and Pisces would offer it tenderness and imagination. Scorpio, its opposite, forms a much-discussed pair, somewhere between attraction and a test of wills. These symbolic correspondences say nothing about the success of a real couple, which is better understood by comparing two full birth charts, Venus and the Moon included.
What does the Taurus symbol ♉ represent?
The glyph ♉ draws a round head topped by two crescent horns. It is often likened to the crescent Moon set on a circle, which would recall the Moon’s exaltation in this sign, but this reading is symbolic and late. The zodiac glyphs settled gradually, between the medieval manuscripts and the first printed books.
