What tradition says
The Moon is exalted in Taurus according to Ptolemy: its presence as a face would double an already important dignity.
Mercury, ruler by Virgo, has on the other hand no dignity in this sign. From one school to the other, one would go from a very comfortable ruler to a mere visitor. Both readings nonetheless speak of care and foresight.
Firmicus Maternus, in the 4th century, devotes a passage of his Mathesis to the decans and to the great power attributed to them. The tables of rulers that circulate afterward in the Middle Ages differ from author to author, which places the debate between faces and triplicities in a very long tradition.
