The 1st decan of Libra: the meaning

The Sun enters Libra at the autumn equinox, the day when light and darkness share the day.

In the series of faces, the Moon follows Mercury, which closed Virgo, so it opens Libra. The triplicities give this first decan back to the sign and to Venus. The two rulers share a sensitivity to atmosphere, one through emotion, the other through aesthetics.

In the lunar version, the person would sense the tensions at a dinner as they walk in and change the subject at the right moment, attentive to everyone’s mood. Under Venus, they would rather attend to the decor, the music, the presentation, the perfectly chosen gift. In the Venusian or the lunar version alike, both would seek peace in relationships, with a grace that those around them notice and appreciate, especially in moments of family tension.

The downside would be avoidance, that talent for sidestepping touchy subjects. To preserve harmony, a person of this decan might accept an arrangement that does not suit them, then regret it for a long time. Other people’s moods, absorbed like a sponge in the lunar reading, might blur their own. Astrologers would advise this third to say early what bothers it, with the tact that comes naturally to it, rather than letting the discomfort settle in.

Frequently asked questions about the 1st decan of Libra

Which planet rules the 1st decan of Libra?

Two possible rulers, depending on the school followed. The Chaldean order, having reached Mercury at the end of Virgo, passes to the Moon; the triplicities give the opening of Libra to Venus, its mistress. The site sets them side by side: one evokes emotion, the other aesthetics and connection.

When does the 1st decan of Libra begin?

At the autumn equinox, the moment when the Sun passes south of the celestial equator. This instant, particular to each year, is calculated to the minute by the site’s engine; the decan then extends for about ten days, and its limits for three years appear above, in Paris time.

What is the Picatrix?

An Arabic treatise on astral magic, the Ghayat al-Hakim, translated into Spanish and then Latin in the 13th century. It describes images for the planets, the lunar mansions, and the decans, meant for making talismans. It strongly influenced Renaissance imagery. The site cites it as a historical source, without crediting talismans with any real effect.
