The 3rd decan of Cancer: the meaning

The Chaldean series, after Mercury, returns to the Moon: it therefore rules the last third of Cancer, its own domicile.

The triplicities assign this decan to Pisces, the third water sign, and to Jupiter, its traditional ruler, with whom moderns associate Neptune. The sensitivity of the sign would take on a clearly broader color, less centered on home alone, and more permeable too.

Under the Moon, one would describe a person of great intuition, who senses moods before words and keeps a strong sensory memory: the smell of a kitchen is enough to carry them back twenty years. Under Jupiter and Pisces, they would open their door wide: volunteering, taking in a friend in difficulty, adopting an abandoned animal. Imagination, music, the sea or a lake would hold an important place in their balance.

The downside would be permeability. By taking in the pain of others, one can get lost in it; by dreaming, one can avoid concrete decisions. Tradition would invite this decan to set gentle limits, to know how to say “not tonight,” and to give its dreams a real form, however modest: a notebook of poems finished, a trip finally booked, an association joined for good.

The 3rd decan of Cancer: tradition

What tradition says

The Moon is here a Chaldean face in its own domicile, a stacking of dignities that would make this decan one of the most lunar of the zodiac, along with the 2nd of Taurus, where it is exalted.

How is it calculated?

The faces give Moon; the triplicities give Pisces and its ruler, Jupiter.

Frequently asked questions about the 3rd decan of Cancer

Why does the Moon return in the 3rd decan of Cancer?

Because the Chaldean series of seven planets runs in a loop: after Mars, the Sun, Venus, and Mercury, it finds the Moon again, which lands here in its own sign. It is not a deliberate choice but the effect of the sequence. The triplicities, for their part, give Pisces and Jupiter, which produces a more generous and more dreamy reading.

Is the 3rd decan of Cancer the most intuitive?

Tradition credits it with a marked intuition and imagination, the Moon stacking two dignities here and Jupiter bringing the influence of Pisces. It is a nuance of reading, not a guaranteed gift. The Moon’s position at birth, and Neptune’s for the moderns, count far more in judging this sensitivity.

When does the 3rd decan of Cancer begin?

When the Sun reaches 20 degrees of Cancer, about ten days before its entry into Leo, around the middle of July. It ends with the sign itself. As for all decans, the exact moments change a little from one summer to the next and are recalculated by the site; on the day of the passage into Leo, the birth time matters.
