What tradition says
Mercury has no dignity in Cancer; Mars is even in fall there, according to Ptolemy, who places its exaltation in the opposite sign.
The ruler by triplicity would therefore be, for tradition, a planet ill at ease in the sign, which would explain a tenser emotion than in the other decans. Jupiter, exalted in Cancer, has its degree of exaltation set at the fifteenth, at the center of this third.
The decans of Cancer appear, like those of the other signs, on the famous Dendera zodiac, a bas-relief of the Ptolemaic period now held in the Louvre, where Egyptian figures and Greek signs sit side by side on a single ceiling.
