The 1st decan of Cancer: the meaning

The Sun reaches Cancer at the solstice, at the time of the longest days in the Northern Hemisphere.

In the series of faces, Venus follows the Sun, who closed Gemini: she therefore opens Cancer. The triplicities, true to their rule, return this initial slice to Cancer and the Moon. Two rulers associated since antiquity with tenderness, two shades of the same need for connection.

With Venus, one would picture a person who looks after their home, chooses curtains with care, cooks for the pleasure of others, and keeps in a box the letters received since childhood. With the Moon, a person more sensitive to atmospheres, who immediately senses if someone at the table is unwell, and finds reassurance in family rituals: the Sunday cake, vacations in the same house every summer.

The downside would be shutting oneself in the cocoon. A move, a child changing schools, or a blended family could be experienced as threats. Nostalgia, gentle at first, would sometimes keep one from enjoying the present. This decan would be encouraged to open its door regularly to new people, so the home stays a living place and not a museum, and to create new traditions rather than only preserving the old ones.

Frequently asked questions about the 1st decan of Cancer

Which planet rules the 1st decan of Cancer?

Venus by the Chaldean faces, since the series reaches her after the Sun of Gemini. The Moon by the other system, which always gives the first slice of a sign to its own ruler. These two readings, one more aesthetic, the other more emotional, are presented on this page with neither preferred over the other.

Is the 1st decan of Cancer the most homebody?

Tradition describes it as such, with a pronounced taste for home, shared meals, and objects full of history. It is a symbolic tendency: a Sagittarius rising sign or a Moon in Aries, for example, would give a person of this decan a strong need to move, without erasing their attachment to loved ones.

What does Egypt have to do with the history of the decans?

The decans were born there. The Egyptians tracked 36 stars that rose in succession, about every ten days, and used them to count the hours of the night. Tables of these stars decorate sarcophagi and temple ceilings. The Greeks then attached these markers to the signs, which gives the three decans of Cancer.
