The 3rd decan of Aries: the meaning

At the end of Aries, the two systems part ways.

The faces name Venus, the third planet in the series after Mars and the Sun; the triplicities give the decan to Sagittarius, the last fire sign, and so to Jupiter. These rulers have almost nothing Martian about them, and tradition draws from them an Aries less solitary than those of the first two thirds, more turned toward encounter and exchange.

Through Venus, one would describe a person who puts grace into their energy: they suggest the outing, organize the picnic, and charm through a mix of boldness and appeal. Through Jupiter, they would grow passionate about a cause, a long journey, or a course that widens perspectives; the challenge becomes less physical and more intellectual. In both cases, the drive looks for an audience or a traveling companion.

Both portraits share the same risk, that of excess. Venus would push toward wanting to please at any cost, to the point of softening a useful truth; Jupiter, toward running several projects at once and underestimating deadlines. This decan would gain by keeping the frankness of the sign, which remains its trademark, while benefiting from its openness to others. One fewer promise, kept to the end, would be worth more than three projects launched the same weekend.

The 3rd decan of Aries: tradition

What tradition says

Venus is in detriment in Aries, the sign opposite her Libra: Lilly would grant her the minor dignity of the face here, but in a sign that works against her.

How is it calculated?

The faces give Venus; the triplicities give Sagittarius and its ruler, Jupiter.

Frequently asked questions about the 3rd decan of Aries

Venus or Jupiter: which ruler for the 3rd decan of Aries?

Both, depending on the system. The Chaldean faces, which come from Hellenistic astrology and were taken up by Lilly, give Venus. The triplicities, preferred by most modern astrologers, give Sagittarius and its ruler Jupiter. The site presents both readings without choosing: each sheds light on a different aspect of this last third, relationship or horizon.

Is the 3rd decan of Aries close to Taurus?

Not through its ruler: neither Venus by the faces nor Jupiter by the triplicities makes it a Taurus in disguise. The Sun is fully in Aries here. What can bring a person of this decan closer to Taurus is rather the rest of their chart: Mercury or Venus, always close to the Sun, are sometimes already in the next sign.

Why would Venus be in detriment in Aries?

Because Libra, the sign Venus rules, sits directly opposite. For tradition, a planet in the sign opposite one of its homes would express itself against type: here, the search for harmony in a sign of self-assertion. This third decan nonetheless gives Venus a ruling role, which makes it one of the most nuanced readings of the sign.
