How is the reading done?

Your browser shuffles the whole deck, then lays it out row by row, in four rows of nine, or in four rows of eight followed by a reserve of four cards. Position 1 is the Rider’s house, position 36 the Cross’s: each card thus falls into the house of another.

The reading starts from the figure you chose to represent you, Man or Woman, whatever your gender: the house where it falls, the eight cards touching it, its neighbors to the left and right. The distance of the Heart, the Ring, the Anchor, the Fish, and the House simply says which themes are in the foreground.

No timing is read in the layout, neither to the left, nor to the right, nor in the reserve.

The 36 cards and their meanings

Frequently asked questions: grand tableau

How do I choose the figure that represents me?

Take Man or Woman according to what fits you, regardless of your gender. For a question about someone else, choose the figure that resembles that person most.

Why does the Grand Tableau take longer to read?

It brings together all 36 cards, so there are many possible links. Start from your figure and its close neighbors, then widen out; nothing requires you to interpret everything at once.

What are the houses for?

Each position in the layout carries the name of a card, and the card that falls there is read with that theme. It is a reading marker that places the images, not a calendar.

Does the Grand Tableau announce events?

No. It takes stock of things at the moment you draw it, and no timing is read in it. Use it to put words on a situation, then decide for yourself.
