The 2nd decan of Capricorn: the meaning

Mars follows Jupiter in the order of the faces: the middle of Capricorn falls to it.

The triplicities tie this third to Taurus, the earth of spring, and to Venus, its mistress. The contrast is sharp between the planet of effort and that of pleasure, but both would give Capricorn’s ambition a concrete goal: one does not climb for the beauty of the ascent alone.

In the Martian version, a person of this decan would show remarkable endurance: preparing for a competitive exam by studying in the evenings, running a renovation project on weekends, accepting the difficult assignments others refuse. In the Venusian version, success would serve first of all to live well: a pleasant home, quality meals, well-earned trips, gifts for loved ones. In both cases, the result matters more than the speeches.

Mars would risk making every colleague a rival and every project a battle; Venus, tying self-esteem to accumulated possessions. This heart of Capricorn would do well to remember that the best results are often collective, and that a success with no one to share it with tastes bitter. Taking the time to savor a stage completed, before aiming at the next, would also give more meaning to all this effort.

The 2nd decan of Capricorn: tradition

What tradition says

Mars is exalted in Capricorn according to Ptolemy, and later authors fix its degree of exaltation at the twenty-eighth, in the following decan.

How is it calculated?

The faces give Mars; the triplicities give Taurus and its ruler, Venus.

Frequently asked questions about the 2nd decan of Capricorn

Why does Mars rule the 2nd decan of Capricorn?

In the Chaldean sequence, Mars comes after Jupiter, ruler of the first third; it therefore falls here. The chance of the series places it in a sign where it is exalted. The other system ties this decan to Taurus, the earth sign of spring, and so to Venus. The two readings are set out side by side, with no preference.

Is the 2nd decan of Capricorn more combative?

By the faces, yes: Mars, exalted, would give Capricorn’s ambition a conquering energy and a great resistance to effort. By the triplicities, the nuance would be more Venusian and material. Mars and Saturn, as they are placed in the chart, say more about real combativeness.

When in the year does the 2nd decan of Capricorn fall?

At the very start of January, over about ten days. It is also the period of perihelion, when our planet passes closest to the Sun and moves faster along its orbit, which makes the winter decans a little shorter. The exact limits appear in the table, recalculated for each year.
