The 1st decan of Capricorn: the meaning
After the Saturn that closed Sagittarius, the Chaldean series passes to Jupiter: it therefore takes the opening of Capricorn.
The triplicities, for their part, leave these first ten degrees to Capricorn and Saturn. The irony of the series: the great benefic opens the sign of its opposite, that of rigor and limits, in the heart of winter.
If you follow Jupiter, this decan would describe an ambitious, confident person, who thinks big for her career or her family, readily takes on public responsibilities, and believes that with work, anything can be obtained. If you follow Saturn, she would advance more cautiously, with a keen sense of duty: the eldest daughter who keeps the household going, the manager on whom the service rests, the person who never misses a deadline and whom people call when everything gets complicated.
One ruler might lead to aiming too high without planning the real effort; the other, to sacrificing the joys of the present to a goal always pushed back. Astrologers would remind this start of Capricorn that the climb counts as much as the summit, and that a pause at the mountain hut is part of the path. A success celebrated along the way often gives the strength to go further, whereas a success always deferred ends up wearing a person down. Summits, as the mountain reminds us, are never climbed in a single stretch.
