The 2nd decan of Leo: the meaning

Jupiter follows Saturn in the series of faces, so it takes the middle of Leo.

The triplicities place it there too, but by another route: the second decan goes to Sagittarius, the next fire sign, whose master is Jupiter. This double agreement, a rare one, gives an unambiguous portrait, that of a Leo to whom tradition attributes the broadest generosity and the most contagious optimism.

One would describe a person who invites the whole street to the neighbors’ party, starts a collection for the school fair, takes a lost intern under their wing. They believe in ambitious projects and know how to make them appealing. Teaching, travel, culture, and justice would draw them: everything that lifts up and brings people together. Their presence often gives a group, at work or in the family, the feeling that anything is possible, and people come back to them when morale dips.

The downside would be excess. Jupiter, the planet of expansion, would push toward thinking too big, spending more than reason allows on a reception, speaking a little too long. Generosity can also turn into paternalism when it forgets to ask the opinion of those it helps. Measuring promises and listening before advising would keep this radiance in proportion.

The 2nd decan of Leo: tradition

What tradition says

Leo offers Jupiter neither domicile nor exaltation; it is the guest of the Sun there, with whom tradition credits it with a natural understanding, that of two planets reputed to be benefic.

How is it calculated?

The faces give Jupiter; the triplicities give Sagittarius and its ruler, Jupiter.

Frequently asked questions about the 2nd decan of Leo

Which planet rules the 2nd decan of Leo?

Jupiter, in both systems. The Chaldean faces place it after Saturn, which opens Leo; the triplicities assign this third to Sagittarius, whose master is Jupiter. This agreement is one of the rare cases where the question of the ruler does not arise. Modern astrologers add no further master here.

Is the 2nd decan of Leo the most generous?

That is how tradition describes it: Jupiter would widen Leo’s warmth into magnanimity, a taste for sharing and teaching. This generosity has its downside, excess and grandiosity. The decan remains a nuance; the position of Jupiter and Venus in the chart says more about the way a person gives.

Do the dates of the 2nd decan of Leo change every year?

Yes, slightly. This third occupies about ten days in early August, and its limits follow the solar calendar, which drifts a little each summer before being corrected by the leap year. The site’s engine recalculates every boundary to the minute; the table shows the current year and the next two.
