Neptune in Cancer: the meaning
Having entered Cancer in July 1901 and left for Gemini the following winter, Neptune occupied the sign until the spring of 1916, after one last back-and-forth with Leo.
The generation concerned was therefore born between the very start of the century and the First World War. Only a few very elderly people still represent it; in most families, these are the parents of today’s grandparents. The next passage will begin around July 2065 and last until around 2079.
Astrologers would describe this Neptune as an imagination of shelter. The dream would take the form of a family table, a village left behind that you rebuild in thought, a photograph album you leaf through at every visit. Amateur photography was indeed spreading through families in the early 20th century: memory becomes an image that you file away, pass on, and contemplate. Astrologers would also see in it the attachment to a native land left for the city, then rebuilt through recipes and songs.
The downside would be a memory that embellishes. You keep the light of the kitchen from a house and forget the cold of the bedrooms; you measure the living against an ancestor who has become a legend. Lived well, this Neptune would instead make a family a broadly welcoming place, open to in-laws and to other people’s children. For births of the 2060s, this reading describes only a tone, predicting nothing about their era.
