Neptune in Virgo: the meaning
Neptune entered Virgo in September 1928, left it for a few months for Leo, then traveled through it until 1942–1943, when it oscillated with Libra.
The people concerned are today between about eighty-three and ninety-eight years old: the generation of grandparents and great-grandparents. Many grew up during the economic crisis of the 1930s, then during the war, contexts in which you learned to waste nothing. The next passage will begin around 2092.
Astrologers would describe here an ideal that distrusts the grandiose and prefers the effective. Dreaming would consist of being of service: repairing a neighbor’s radio, keeping an association’s accounts, keeping jars of jam lined up and labeled. The spirituality of this generation, as the modern reading would present it, would run through duty done and modesty. It is sometimes observed in grandparents who keep every piece of string and every empty jar, just in case.
The downside of this modern detriment would be a form of scruple: doubting yourself until you have been useful, fading behind the task, judging other people’s disorder severely. The personal dream, the one that serves no purpose, would sometimes have been set aside. The house that Neptune occupies in a chart from this period would say where this demand is concentrated. Lived well, this same detriment would produce people you can count on, without speeches or display.
