Frequently asked questions about the May zodiac sign

What is the zodiac sign for a May birth?

Taurus first, Gemini from about the third week. Because this month falls in the period when the Sun slows down, the changeover comes a little later than in the winter months. Its moment, specific to each year, appears in the grid with Paris time; elsewhere in the month, the date alone gives the sign.

Born on the day the sign changes in May: Taurus or Gemini?

The time decides. The Sun crosses 0° Gemini at a precise moment, shown for the year of birth; a birth earlier in the day remains Taurus, a later birth moves to Gemini. Without a time, both answers remain open, and the calculator says so instead of choosing at random.

Why don’t all the signs last the same number of days?

Because our planet moves faster along its orbit in the northern winter, when it is close to the Sun, and more slowly in summer, when it moves away from it. The Sun therefore seems to cross the 30 degrees of a summer sign in more than 31 days, and those of a winter sign in a little under 30. The differences are small, but they move the boundaries.
