Frequently asked questions about the August zodiac sign

What is the zodiac sign for an August birth?

Leo first, then Virgo. The boundary comes late in the month and shifts slightly from one year to the next, with a tendency to move earlier since the middle of the 20th century. For a birthday at the beginning or end of August, the date is enough; for the days of the passage, the birth time becomes necessary.

Born on the day the sign changes in August: Leo or Virgo?

The birth time settles it. A birth before the Sun crosses 0° Virgo belongs to Leo; a birth after belongs to Virgo. If the time is unknown, the full birth certificate requested from the town of birth usually provides it, since it has been recorded on certificates for generations, along with the town and the date.

Do the dates of the signs change from one century to the next?

Slightly. The Gregorian calendar is very close to the year of the seasons, but not identical. Between two century years that are not leap years, the sign changes move forward little by little, by about three quarters of a day per century, and then jump back a day all at once. Over the course of the 21st century, they keep moving forward until 2100, a year that will not have a February 29.
