Sun in the 4th house: the meaning
Around midnight, the Sun passes beneath our feet, at the lowest point of its course: this is the bottom of the sky, called the Imum Coeli, and it is where the 4th house opens.
This angular house, tied to Cancer and the Moon in the natural zodiac, touches on the home, ancestry, close relatives, and domestic intimacy. The luminary of the day is here at the opposite of visibility: its radiance is turned inward, toward what founds rather than what shows.
This often gives a person deeply attached to their home, who can spend an entire weekend repainting a room or cooking for the whole family. Family history matters: they trace the family tree, keep their grandparents’ house, or on the contrary define themselves in reaction to a weighty family model. Tradition also associates this house with the father, so that the paternal figure often holds a defining place in the building of the self.
The inwardness of this placement can delay public self-assertion. Many people with the Sun in the 4th house flourish mostly after the first half of life, once the foundations are laid. The risk is withdrawal into the intimate circle, or difficulty detaching from the family model. The 10th house, opposite, recalls that an identity also plays out in the world, in an embraced social role.
