Pluto in Taurus: the meaning
Taurus, a fixed earth sign ruled by Venus, loves what lasts: a field, a house, a recipe handed down from one generation to the next.
Pluto, by contrast, symbolizes what must disappear in order to be reborn. The meeting of the two is considered uncomfortable, which is why modern astrologers, who give Scorpio to Pluto, place its detriment in the opposite sign. Detriment does not mean a bad placement: it describes a terrain where the planet would act against its own nature, more slowly and with more resistance.
This stay stretched over about thirty years, from 1851–1853 to 1882–1884, with several back-and-forth crossings at the edges: a whole generation shared it. Historians of mundane astrology link it to the second industrial revolution, the rise of the large banks, and landed property reshaped by the flight from the countryside. These correspondences are made after the fact, and they say more about the astrologers’ method than about the sky itself.
For a given chart, the sign matters little on its own. You would need to know in which area of life Pluto sits to say where the question of possession would arise: earned money, if it is the 2nd house; shared or inherited assets, if it is the 8th; the family home, if it is the 4th. Pluto will return to Taurus around 2095; until then, no contemporary chart contains it.
