Where reading signs comes from
The European countryside handed down its superstitions, often contradictory from one region to the next, and every culture kept its own animals, colors, and objects of meaning. In the 20th century, Carl Gustav Jung gave a name to these coincidences that speak to us: synchronicity. Contemporary spirituality, finally, readily sees in them the presence of an angel or a loved one. Each page reports these readings with their source, without turning them into a rule.
What attention does
Noticing a sign says something first about your attention. Once a butterfly or a number has struck you, you see it more often: this is the frequency illusion, and our eyes readily look for familiar patterns. Knowing this takes nothing away from what you feel; it helps you keep the reading for what it is, a question to ask yourself rather than an answer from elsewhere.
Readings reported from the named cultures: a mirror for reflection, never a prediction or an omen.

Spiritual signs: your questions
What does the “spiritual meaning” of an animal or object refer to?
It is the meaning that cultures, religions, or spiritual currents have given to an animal, a color, or an object when it crosses our path. These readings are many and sometimes opposed; each page reports them with their origin, then offers a question to ask yourself, so the sign speaks to your own situation.
Can a sign announce an event?
No page on Versana tells the future. Superstitions that promise luck or misfortune are reported as superstitions, with their history. Here, a sign is read as a mirror: it shows what is on your mind at the moment it strikes you, not what lies ahead.
Why do the readings change from one culture to another?
Because a sign receives the meaning a society gives it: the black cat is thought to bring bad luck in one common superstition and good luck in Japan, and white is the color of brides in the West and of funerals in China. Naming each culture avoids presenting a local belief as a universal truth.
How do I record the signs I notice?
The synchronicity journal, free and with no account, keeps the date, the time, what you saw, and what you were thinking about. Everything stays in your browser; you can export it to a file. After a few weeks, it shows what really comes back.
