Blind test: your pendulum against chance

The site hides an answer and your pendulum looks for it: then compare your score with what chance would give, with no judgment.

The hidden answers stay in your browser: nothing is sent or saved.

Nothing leaves your browser

The hidden answers are drawn by your browser and never leave the page: nothing is sent, nothing is saved, and the address does not change. Reloading the page erases the series.

How does it work?

Each answer is drawn at random from two (yes or no) or four (four colors), using the browser’s cryptographic generator. The site shows nothing until the end, so as not to steer the series. The result compares your score with the binomial distribution: the average for chance, the range where at least 95 series out of 100 fall, and the share of chance series that do as well as you. This is the experiment Chevreul described in the 19th century, redone at home.

Blind test: your questions

Does a good score prove the pendulum works?

A single series proves nothing, either way: chance also produces fine series. That is why the result tells you how often chance would do as well. If your score exceeds the usual range, do a longer series on another day and see whether the gap holds.

Why not see the answer after each try?

Showing the right answer after each try would change the experiment: you would adjust your expectation, consciously or not, and the series would no longer measure the same thing. All the answers are shown at the end, try by try, with yours alongside. Nothing stops you from starting again afterward.

Blind tests have done no better than chance: the movement is thought to come from small involuntary movements of the hand. Never ask a pendulum a question about health, money, or the law: see a professional.
